Diesel Truck Scheduled Maintenance
We stock all the necessary fluids and filters to meet the OE-specific needs of your diesel truck or van. The newer your diesel is, the more particular it likely is on the fluid it calls for. Long gone are the days when every diesel takes the same bulk oil. It is important to have your vehicle serviced by a diesel mechanic that understands the specific need of your vehicle. Though we are mostly known for being the go-to shop in the area for diagnosing and repairing diesels, we also perform all the scheduled maintenance services as well. Whether it be a routine oil service, tire rotation, filter change, or any other common service, we would love to be your go-to shop to keep your diesel serviced.
Performing regular maintenance service on your diesel is crucial to the longevity of your vehicle. We have shop trucks with over 300k miles that are still reliable and drive great. This is largely due to performing regular maintenance over the years. Keeping clean fluid and filters in your diesel is the best thing you can do to avoid major failures.

Diesel Fuel System
Our diesel mechanics have a solid understanding of both the low-pressure and high-pressure sides of your diesel truck fuel system. It is important to have a diesel mechanic diagnosing and repairing the fuel system of your truck rather than a general repair mechanic. There are a lot of differences between a diesel system and a gasoline system. We often see misdiagnosis of customers’ concerns when we give new customers a second opinion. Whether it be a simple low-pressure fuel pump, a more complicated high-pressure fuel pump, a fuel injector problem, or an electrical problem. Our diesel mechanics will be able to diagnose any concern you may be having with your Ford, Chev, GMC, Dodge, or Ram.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)
Most late-model diesel vehicles are utilizing diesel exhaust fluid in order to keep the diesel particulate filters cleaned out. Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is a mixture of water and urea. Urea is a compound found in Nitrogen that turns into ammonia when heated. So by strategically spraying def into the exhaust at certain temperatures and throttle load, it turns into ammonia which is a strong cleaning agent. Your truck’s diesel exhaust fluid is crucial to avoid restrictions in the diesel particulate filter but comes with some other common problems. Carbon buildup, heat, and electronic failures create some issues for the def system. The def system is monitored closely by your truck’s onboard computer system and will set a warning if a problem is detected. One of the best things you can do to avoid costly repairs to this system is to fill the def system as soon as you get the low warning (or before). If you wait until the system is completely empty, it can cause the system to malfunction. The most common failures we are seeing lately are with the exhaust temperature sensors. They are simple sensors but once they send an inaccurate reading, it throws the whole system out of whack and will not go through a regeneration (cleaning) process.

Disaster Kits
Hopefully, you never have the need for a disaster kit. If you were ever to make the mistake of adding diesel exhaust fluid (def) to the diesel fuel tank and then starting the vehicle, you would need a disaster kit installed. When def and diesel mix together in the fuel system, it creates a reaction that almost looks like crystallization. If you mistakenly add def to your diesel tank, then start your truck, you are in a bit of trouble. The proper fix once this happens is to replace all the fuel items. Fuel pumps, injectors, fuel rails, etc… Unfortunately it happens fairly often. The world is full of distractions and most trucks have the fill for the def right next to the fill for diesel. If this ever happens and you catch it as it is happening, do not start your truck or even turn the key. Let’s tow that bad boy in, drain the tank and call it good. Once you turn the key or start it, it primes the system from the tank to the engine and it is too late. We will then be ordered the disaster kit and change out all the parts as needed. We are very good at these repairs but would rather help you avoid the expense.

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)
All late-model diesels utilize a DPF system for emission controls. Newer diesel trucks use a diesel particulate filter to capture the black soot (particulates) that used to come out of our tailpipes. This is great for reducing the emissions output but does come with some common problems. Every manufacturer is now utilizing a DPF. Ford Power Stroke, Chevy Duramax, and Ram Cummins all have their own version of DPF. Our diesel mechanics have a clear understanding of this system and can diagnose any issue you may be having. We have the factory equipment to be able to perform regeneration (regen) to clear these filters out when needed. We also have the factory equipment to diagnose any check engine light warnings that may come up with trouble codes pertaining to the DPF system. There are aftermarket companies that design DPF delete kits. These kits remove the particulate filter and come with programming that allows the vehicle to still run properly. Unfortunately, we are in Davis County and have strict emissions laws that do not legally permit the DPF delete kit to be installed on vehicles for highway use. These are designed for off-road use only and will cause your truck to fail the visual portion of a Davis county emissions test. The same goes for Weber county.
