Summer is upon us and with it comes the heat… Despite the warmer temperatures, people still need to go about there every day activities, including driving their cars to different destinations. Your air conditioning is extremely important for your comfort and family’s health when driving in the summer time, specifically if you are driving long distances frequently. Freon is a key ingredient to ensuring that your car stays cool and comfortable all summer long. Continue reading to learn more about Freon and why it is important for your car and air conditioning system.
What Is Freon?
Freon is a chemical that is used to create cool air in the car. It is a refrigerant that allows for cool air to be circulated throughout the car. The Freon in your air conditioning system is constantly being converted from a gas to a liquid. In the low-pressure side of the engine’s cooling system, the Freon is a gas. When the refrigerant moves to the higher pressure side of the engine,
the pressure squeezes the gas until moves to a liquid state. The car is able to stay cool with the constant circulation of the Freon.
AC Avalanche has a great video about how the freon in your car works. Check it out here.
Why Is Freon Important?
Freon is an important part of your cooling system. Without it, your air conditioning system would being to fail until it stops working completely. As a
refrigerant, it is the essential component that is needed to keep your car cool. Freon is actually used to keep both your car and your house cool. What is great about this refrigerant is that it is recycled. That means that you will not have to worry about replacing your refrigerant very often.
How To Know When To Recharge Your Cars A/C
Because refrigerant (Freon) is recycled through your car, you luckily will not have to replace it often. However, if there is a leak in an AC line or somewhere in the circulation system, then you will begin to see problems with
your car. Often your Air Conditioning system will no longer blow cold air. If you are having to replace or charge the refrigerant in your car’s AC system often, then there is likely a leak.
There are several things that you can look for that will help you recognize when it may be time to have your AC system serviced and or repaired. Firstly,
the air that is coming out of your air conditioner will likely be warm or hot, especially in the summer. Another indication that there may be a Freon leak in your car is ice and frost building up on your vents. This is unlikely to get very far without being noticed, but it is a potential symptom of low Freon levels.
